The Artisan Problem

Unfortunately, Ahmad is seen as
a problem, as he cannot sit still, does not submit his h/w on time, is sometimes late to attend school and gets bored very quickly.

Quite often, his school and family think there is something wrong with him as
a result. This also starts to make Ahmad think there is something wrong with him, as he does not fit in with the society ‘norms’.

Ahmad is really struggling to think of a job that suits his personality. He is
facing the challenges of family demands of being a Doctor or a Lawyer when he is an adult, but Ahmad really doesn’t like routine and these jobs do not sound appealing to him at all. Ahmad just wants to have his freedom in making his choices and wishes there is a career where he would not be restricted, a job that enables him some freedom without it being too demanding or restricting.

Ahmad, 15-year-old student, does not like routine at all. He values his freedom and doesn’t like to be restricted. He feels suffocated when restricted with things to do at specific times. In school, he likes PE, as it enables him to move around freely. Classrooms feel restricting for Ahmad, as it requires him to sit down for long periods of times and he cannot express his creativity much in the classroom too.

Sahabah Match

Ahmad’s personality matches with Sahabah like Khalid Bin Al-Waleed and A’isha Bint Abu Bakr (Radiallahu A’anhum), known for being adventurous, responsive, quick-witted, as well as having excellent emergency and negotiation skills.

The Solution

Trying to change Ahmad’s personality to conform to society norms or what is acceptable will unfortunately suppress his great talents he holds that Allah Has Blessed him with, like the above great Sahabah. This becomes very discouraging for him, and does not enable such personalities to show up authentically like Khalid Bin Al-Waleed and A’isha Bint Abu Bakr (Radiallahu A’anhum). Nurturing Ahmad’s personality correctly and accommodating for his personality needs is very important.

Impact on Life

Ahmad needs a career that enables him freedom without restrictions, such as being an Athlete, Artist, Programmer, Technician, Business owner, or a Surgeon. Such roles will enable Ahmad to utilise the great strengths Allah Has Blessed him with of being spontaneous, quick-witted, and enjoying creativity, just like the great Sahabah Khalid Bin Al-Waleed and A’isha Bint Abu Bakr (Radiallahu A’anhum).

Also, as Ahmad does not like restrictions, it would help him to get things done by giving him a form of freedom in getting things done, e.g. giving him time slots, such as to do his h/w anytime between 5-8pm, instead of asking Ahmad to do something immediately, This allows Ahmad a level of freedom, yet knowing there is a deadline to meet as this personality works very well under pressure and thrives on spontaneity and flexibility. This is one of the reasons Salah in Islam has time slots between one prayer to the next, to accommodate for all personality types, including the personality type addressed in this section.

Role of a Sahabah match (Khalid Radiallahu A’anh) in serving Islam

Khalid Bin Al-Waleed (Radiallahu A’anh) was known to be a very brave and excellent commander.
